Old Dux on a Winning Streak PDF Print E-mail

Our Women's Vets Team have won both of their opening games, with a 2-1 win over WASPS in the first round and a 3-1 win over UWA Soaks last night.  The girls have steadily improved since their first season 4 years ago and the diehards from season 1 have been joined with some new blood over the years.

Last night's win included an effective and successful mop-up operation by Deb in the first half to score our first goal, and a brilliant flick by Linda showing her calm in the face of adversity and a stunning 3/4 field run ending in a well deserved goal by Claire in the second half.  Thanks to Peta for filling in for us and showing us how a full-back can direct the play.  Welcome to our new recruits - Wendy and Michelle - you did a great job and we love having you with us.

Shentons gets Liquor Licence PDF Print E-mail

Shentons Club Pty Ltd is now the proud licensee (pursuant to the provisions of the Liquor Act) of a special facility licence.

All Riverside Lions Hockey Club members must note that they cannot bring alcohol into Lemnos Field (Shenton Turf) and must only purchase and consume alcohol which is supplied by the licensee.

Please also note that the licensed area includes the whole building and the area immediately to the west of the ground from where most of the viewing is conducted.  Alcohol therefore cannot be taken down onto the ground or to the ends of the fields or the opposite side of the field.

This licence will be of immense benefit to the four participating clubs at Shentons and we anticipate that in the year ahead the clubs can expect some dividend back from their operation of this facility.  All club members are asked to become familiar with the licensing requirements to ensure that we comply with it at all times, and ensure that it is used for the betterment of our club.

Riverside Lions Junior Hockey Club

The Junior Club AGM was held on Sunday 13th September 2009 followed by the Junior Windup and Trophy Presentations.  It was well attended, with some new faces volunteering to join our committee and constructive discussion around two special motions put to the membership.

Our Junior President, Garry Fitzpatrick, presented his President's Report and a new committee was formed, including a few new faces which is very pleasing.  Garry also proposed two important special resolutions related to the future of our club regarding:

1.  amalgamation of the Riverside Lions Junior and Senior Hockey Clubs, and
2.  acceptance of a lease of the J.C. Smith Pavilion.

Constructive discussion took place, followed by a unanimous vote to accept both motions.

Riverside Lions Senior Hockey Club

The Senior Club AGM was held on Sunday 27th October 2009.  It was also well attended, and again, with some new faces volunteering to join our committee.

Our Senior President, Bevan Lawrence, presented his President's Report and a new committee was formed.  The two special resolutions mentioned above were also put to the meeting.

Following discussion, those present voted unanimously to accept both motions.

The New Organisation Structure

A subsequent meeting of both committees was held to discuss the reorganisation of the club and committee structure.  In summary:

  • The Junior Committee becomes a sub-committee of the Riverside Lions Hockey Club committee and will continue to manage all aspects related to the Junior Grades.  The President of the Junior Hockey Club will now be Vice-President of RSLHC.
  • Certain functions of the previous separate committees will combine to cater for the whole club, reporting to the RSLHC committee, namely Treasury (which now has a Treasure plus 2 assistants) and Website/newsletter.

A sub-committee was also formed to investigate and negotiate the potential lease of the J.C. Smith Pavilion.
